2. Matrix Organization

Definition:
An organizational structure in which team members report to both a functional manager and a project manager.

Simple Meaning:
Employees report to two bosses — one for department work and one for project work.

Example:
A mechanical engineer reports to the mechanical department head and also to the project manager for the plant installation project.

3. Methods & Procedures

Definition:
Standardized processes and documented steps used to perform project activities.

Simple Meaning:
Standard way of doing work.

Example:
Following a standard welding procedure (WPS) for pipeline welding is part of methods and procedures.

4. Metrics

Definition:
Quantitative measures used to assess project performance.

Simple Meaning:
Numbers used to measure project progress.

Examples:

5. Milestone

Definition:
A significant event or checkpoint in a project schedule that marks completion of a major phase or deliverable.

Simple Meaning:
Important project checkpoint.

Example:
Completion of foundation work or successful commissioning of equipment is a milestone.

6. Mitigation

Definition:
Actions taken to reduce the probability or impact of risks.

Simple Meaning:
Reducing the effect of a problem before it happens.

Example:
Keeping spare pumps ready to avoid downtime is a risk mitigation action.

7. Monitoring

Definition:
The ongoing process of tracking project performance and progress against the plan.

Simple Meaning:

Example:
